It is so frustrating to hear students say their teachers do not care.
"How do you know?" I ask.
And the old reply comes, "Well the teacher said today,'If you don't want to learn that's your business, at the end of the month I still get my pay cheque." This should never be said, no matter how distraught and angry one becomes.
If you are in teaching simply because it pays well then you are doing the students you teach a grave injustice. Where has the passion for teaching gone? I am not saying our students are angels, but if you are truly tired of teaching and have no love for the demands of the job anymore, then get out! The students are suffering from your lack of interest and care. They know when you do not care and they will in return treat you with the same level of respect you give them. The sudents are wise and they know when you are interested in them or not. Teaching is a stressful and demanding job, but we cannot let down our guard. Count to 10 if we must but, let us be careful of the words we choose to use and the attitudes we display as they can damage a child for life.
